Airtel network in Kenya has the lowest call rates charging Ksh2.78 per minutes on Airtel to Airtel and also to other networks. This has made necessary to have an Airtel line for making calls while having Safaricom line for M-pesa transactions.
Airtel credit is not as widely available as Safaricom airtime and sometimes you are in a place where it is hard to access the scratch card but you have money in your M-pesa account. You need not worry as you can buy Airtel airtime using M-pesa by following the steps outlined below.
How to buy Airtel Airtime from Mpesa
You will use the paybill number 220 220
- Go to the Mpesa Menu on your mobile phone.
- Choose Lipa Na M-Pesa option
- Choose Paybill
- Enter the following Business number 220220
- For the Account Number, enter your Airtel mobile number. Start with 0 (Zero) and enter all the digits
- Enter the amount of Airtime you want to buy
- Finish by entering your Mpesa Pin and send
- You will receive a message from M-pesa showing the bill has been paid. On your Airtel line, you will receive a message confirming the purchase of the airtime.
The process is supposed to be instantaneous but sometimes, network delays may cause a delay. You can check your Airtel airtime balance since sometimes, top up is done and you don’t receive the confirmation message. You can also buy Airtel airtime with Fuliza in M-pesa.
