How To Pay Kenya Power Through M-pesa

There are several ways to pay your power account with the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC). The use of Mpesa is the most common. Both postpaid users who pay a monthly bill and prepaid users who purchase tokens are affected by this.

Using Mpesa PayBill numbers to pay bills is a lot faster and more practical than purchasing items from vendors or visiting the bank.

1. How to Purchase Prepaid Tokens From Kenya Power Using M-PESA Paybill Number 888880

This electricity bill system allows you to access electricity only after you have made payments to Kenya Power. The company will send you a token number corresponding to the amount of electricity you have bought. Just key in this token and get connected again. Here are the steps to follow.

  1. Go to Mpesa menu
  2. Choose Lipa na Mpesa
  3. Choose Paybill
  4. Add the business number 888880.
  5. Type in the KPLC Prepaid Meter Number.
  6. Enter your desired payment amount, which must be between KSh100 and 35,000.
  7. Type your Pin number, then click “OK.”
  8. Verify that all of the information you have entered is accurate and click OK.
  9. M-pesa will send you an SMS to confirm the transaction.

After that, KPLC will create a prepaid token that is good for your meter and send it to you through SMS.

2. How To Pay Kenya Power Post Paid Bill Through M-pesa Paybill Number 888888

The post paid system allows you to use electricity and pay for what you have used later on. You can use M-pesa yabill number to clear the bill you have incurred using the following steps:

  1. Go to the M-pesa menu
  2. Choose Lipa na Mpesa
  3. Choose Paybill
  4. Type 888888 into the “Business number” box.
  5. Type in the KPLC post paid account Number.
  6. Enter your desired payment amount, which must be between KSh100 and 35,000.  (note you can pay your bill partially)
  7. Type your Pin number, then click “OK.”
  8. Verify that all of the information you have entered is accurate and click OK.
  9. M-PESA will send you an SMS to confirm the transaction.

After that, KPLC will send a confirmation message that the money has been received and credited to the respective account.
