The new Constitution sought to merge these institutions into a single entity, hence the formation of the National Police Service.
The National Police Service (NPS) is the primary law enforcement agency in Kenya. It is responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting citizens, and preventing crime. we will take a closer look at the National Police Service in Kenya, including its history, structure, and functions.
Structure of the National Police Service in Kenya
The National Police Service is divided into three main branches, namely the Kenya Police Service (KPS), the Administration Police Service (APS), and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The KPS is responsible for maintaining law and order in urban areas, while the APS is responsible for rural areas. The DCI, on the other hand, is responsible for investigating and solving crimes.
Each of these branches is headed by a Director-General, who reports to the Inspector-General of Police. The Inspector-General is responsible for the overall management of the National Police Service.
