There is no need for cash withdraws or time wastage on queues to have your lights on and run your service efficiently. This is because Kenya Power Limited Company KPLC, in collaboration with Safaricom, has provided a straightforward method to pay for the electricity buying tokens using MPESA for prepaid and postpaid customers.
The difference is that postpaid customers pay bills after use while prepaying pays bills before using. The following are the simple steps to follow.
How To Buy Prepaid Tokens Via M-pesa
1. Go to the Sim Toolkit M-Pesa menu and select Lipa na M-Pesa.
2. Select the Pay Bill option
3. Select Enter business no. You will be required to key in the business number constant 888 880 for the prepaid customers and press OK.
4. Select Enter account no, put the meter token number as per the token, and press OK.
5. Put the amount you want to pay from Ksh.1 to Ksh. 35,000 and press OK
6. Enter the MPESA Pin and confirm the details.
7. You will receive Mpesa transaction SMS and KPLC SMS with a total number of units purchased and a 20 digits number to be keyed in the KPLC Meter Token.
Note that the M-pesa paybill charges will apply.
Plug in the token meter in electricity connected if the token doesn’t have butteries but if it has batteries, you can still plug in the socket while it is on and then enter the token number and press the blue button to recharge.
Paying Electricity Bill For Postpaid Customers
1. Go to Sim toolkit Mpesa menu, select lipa na Mpesa, and select Pay Bill.
2. Select Enter the business number and key in 888 888. And press OK. NB, this is the Pay Bill for Post pay customers only.
3. Select Account no. You will be required to key in the account number, e.g., 123….; press OK.
4. Put the amount to be paid within a range of Ksh 100 to Ksh 35,000 and press OK.
5. Complete the transaction by entering the pin and confirming if the details are correct.
6. You will receive a confirmation SMS from KPLC for the payment.
