Private Universities in Kenya are registered as per the guidelines given by the Universities Act 210B of 2012. Through the Act, the commission for Higher Education (CHE) is established to promote the objectives of university education in Kenya.
These objectives of university education includes development, processing, storage and dissemination of knowledge for the benefit of mankind.
The registration of a private university involves the institution making a formal application to the commission for higher education which will study and appraise the institution and when satisfied will issue charter to the university.
Unlike public universities that are funded by the public money, private universities are funded by their owners and promoters.
